Cork Hotel Site For Sale
A six acre site located on the western edge of Skibbereen Town on the Baltimore Road originally launched on the market in Spring of 2008 has now had its asking price revised to €500,000.

The site has the benefit of full planning permission for a 100 bedroom hotel to include restaurants, bars, conference facilities, meeting rooms, leisure and spa as well as a helicopter landing pad.

The hotel was designed by Ashlin Coleman Heelan Architects and received planning permission in June 2005. The site itself is highly prominent, has an attractive setting and is strategically located about a half mile from the town opposite the football grounds and adjacent to the 18 hole, par 69 Skibbereen and West Carbery Golf Club.

The site is for sale by way of private treaty through Savills in Cork and selling agent Denis O’Donoghue says there is a tremendous opening for a hotel. “At the moment there is only one 30 bedroom hotel in Skibbereen, it is the principal town in West Cork and a good hotel is needed so that the area can grow and prosper in terms of optimising its economic and tourism potential in the long term” he says. There are six beaches within a 10 minute drive of the town and the renowned tourist spots of Schull, Glandore, Baltimore etc are all within close proximity.

The re-opening of the Cork - Swansea ferry line in two months time will certainly be a boom to the West Cork area as it has lost out significantly on the British and European tourist market since the line closed. The Fastnet line will run a ship which has capacity for 1,860 passengers and over 400 vehicles.

“With a competitively priced site and ever declining build costs we may look back in years to come and think of it as one the best opportunities taken in the recession” adds Denis O’Donoghue.
