Following a £2m refurbishment, Cityside Retail Park located in Belfast city, has grown to become Northern Ireland’s leading retail and leisure parks. Its bespoke leisure offering ‘CITYSIDE EXCITE’ first launched in 2016, and since then has brought the best in innovative leisure experiences to the region. Cityside now offers a total entertainment package including Axe throwing, VR and, Adventure golf to complement its existing 14-screen, multiplex cinema, health club, bingo club and kids soft play area. The cinema also recently underwent a £2m refurbishment and now offers a VIP seating experience.

Located approximately 500 metres north of Belfast city centre, Cityside comprises a gross floor area of approximately 365,000 sq. ft of which approximately 150,000 sq. ft is retail warehouse space.

Brian Gaffney of Savills spoke of recent big-name additions to the park,

“We are delighted with the transformation of Cityside over the last 2 years into one of Northern Ireland’s top leisure destinations. We have an incredible experience on site, with companies such as VR CityX and Lost City Adventure Golf offering cutting edge experiences to the public. VR CityX is Northern Ireland’s first virtual reality arcade with exclusive, never before seen VR simulators and more than 280 games available. This is gaming taken to the next level.

Movie House has continued to invest in Cityside and is in the process of completing a £2m investment in VIP seating, new concessions and washrooms.

We have a rapidly expanding experience offering at Cityside, including the highly anticipated opening of Black Axe Throwing Co. this September. Building on the phenomenal success of their Edinburgh venue, Black Axe is fast becoming the best axe throwing experience out there. Axe throwing is one of the fastest growing urban sports in the US and Canada and is described by The Times as ‘the new 10-pin bowling’ – so we are very excited to house the first dedicated venue in Scotland and Northern Ireland. It’s a great night out - fast paced, energetic and brilliant fun for all!”

Alongside its leisure offering, Cityside is also an established retail destination with tenants that include ASDA Living, Sports Direct, New Look, Home Bargains, Poundland, Peacocks, B&M Bargains, and Tesco.

The scheme also benefits from 1,100 free car park spaces on site.

The successful retail and leisure park lies adjacent to the site of the new University of Ulster campus, work on which is ongoing with completion anticipated in early 2021.

Mr Gaffney concluded,

“We are looking ahead to continued success for Cityside. The new University campus adjacent to the centre will ensure strong demand for space from food, retail and leisure operators, for which the centre can provide a range of unit sizes from 500 sq. ft. to 25,000 sq. ft. We want to stay at the forefront of current trends in terms of our leisure offering and are delighted to work with operators that strive to meet consumer demand in the sector in exciting and innovative ways.”
