My experience as a placement student with Savills: Office Agency

During our third year of studying Property Economics at Technological University Dublin my classmates and I were given the chance to apply for internships at some of the top real estate companies in Ireland. Some friends in the class a year ahead of me recommended the Savills Placement Programme so I was delighted when I received the call letting me know I was successful at interview and was offered the role.

My internship in the Office Agency team started at the end of January. Even though I am only half way through my time here, I have already gained so much knowledge and have been exposed to so many different projects. I now know much more about the property sector; what it entails, the various fields you can work in, and what to anticipate when I start working full-time following graduation.

The Offices department looks after the acquisition, selling and leasing of office developments across Ireland. We provide landlord representation, tenant representation and serviced office services. My focus throughout my internship has been landlord representation and I have been working closely alongside the team. It has been great to be involved in such a variety of tasks from presenting the Office Agency update at our Monday Morning Meeting, completing lease summaries, working on heads of terms alongside Directors, carrying out inspections and even sitting in on some calls with clients.

No day is ever the same. I could be out on a viewing, following up on enquiries, drafting a brochure or even standing in some of the highest quality office spaces in the CBD.

One of my favourite aspects of my role in Office Agency is that no day is ever the same. I could be out on a viewing, following up on enquiries, drafting a brochure or even standing in some of the highest quality office spaces in the CBD. As with beginning anything new, of course there have been some challenges. I had to get used to picking up the phone and interacting with people, which required a quick adjustment. However, my team has always been there to support me, and I have learned so much from listening to them on the phone or reviewing their emails.

Since joining Savills, I have really appreciated the emphasis on socialising and networking with colleagues– I have met my colleagues from across the wider office at events such 'TGI Thursday', and networking lunches and property launches have been a great way to get to know my peers across the industry. We also celebrated Pancake Tuesday and Easter with brunches and chocolate eggs.

I have refined a lot of my soft skills throughout my time here, my professionalism, communication, and my knowledge of the industry. I'm finishing up my internship grateful for this opportunity from both Savills and Technological University Dublin and looking forward to my future in property!
